Relocating to Portland, OR: How One Midwest Family Found the Perfect Place to Call Home

Relocating to Portland, OR

Relocating to Portland, OR is an exciting opportunity, but it can also feel overwhelming. When you're moving from another state, you're not just buying a house—you're choosing a community, schools, neighborhoods, and an entirely new lifestyle.

That's exactly what one wonderful family from the Midwest was facing when they began planning their move to Oregon.

An Unexpected Connection

One of my favorite parts of this story is how it all started.

Instead of finding me through a past client or friend, this family came across a recommendation for me in a Reddit discussion about relocating to Portland, OR. After reading the recommendation, they reached out to see if I'd be a good fit to help them navigate their move.

I'm so glad they did!

Starting With a Big Vision

Like many families relocating to Portland, they weren't completely sure what they wanted at first.

Their original dream was to purchase acreage where they could eventually build a custom home. With three active boys, they imagined plenty of room to run, explore, and enjoy the outdoors.

We spent time looking at different possibilities, learning what mattered most to them, and talking through the pros and cons of various locations throughout the Portland area.

As we continued the search, their priorities became even clearer.

Finding Something Even Better

Sometimes the perfect home isn't the one you originally imagined.

During their search, an incredible off-market opportunity became available.

The home checked nearly every box:

  • Plenty of living space for an active family

  • A huge backyard

  • A creek bordering the property

  • Excellent schools

  • An easy commute

  • Access to parks, shopping, restaurants, and everyday conveniences

Instead of sacrificing convenience for space, they found a home that offered both.

Why Oregon Was Such a Great Fit

This family loves to stay active, especially through running and track.

From Forest Park and Tryon Creek to hundreds of miles of trails throughout the region, Portland is an incredible place for people who love spending time outside. Add in a strong running community, youth sports programs, and easy access to mountains, rivers, and the coast, and it's easy to see why so many families choose to relocate here.

Relocating to Portland Is About More Than Finding a House

Every relocation is different.

My goal is always the same: help clients feel confident that they're choosing not only the right home, but also the right place to build their lives.

That's one of the reasons I love helping people relocate to Portland, OR. Every family has a unique story, and I enjoy helping them discover the community that fits them best.
