How Looking at Expired Listings Helped One Portland Homebuyer Win

For many clients, buying a home is exciting. For others, it represents something deeper — a new chapter, a reset, a rebuilding season.

Recently, I had the privilege of working with a Portland homebuyer who was navigating life after divorce. About a year before we began her solo home search, my team and I had been interviewed to list the family home. While her husband ultimately chose another agent, she later reached out directly and said, “When I’m ready to buy again, can you help me?”

We stayed connected and when she was ready, we began her search.

I sent her several options that met her criteria and she selected three to tour.

The first two weren’t the right fit.

But the third home? The moment she walked in, we both knew.

It offered beautiful natural light, backed to peaceful green space, and had the functional layout she needed for her sons and her home office. It wasn’t just a house — it felt like a new beginning.

Strategy Made All the Difference

What made this transaction special wasn’t simply finding a three-bedroom home. It was the strategy behind the search and the commitment to my client’s priorities.

Sometimes the right home isn’t the one that pops up first in an online search. It’s found by:

  • Thinking Outside the Box and looking beyond active listings

  • Exploring canceled and expired properties

  • Staying focused on long-term needs

  • Advocating strategically during negotiations

Every Portland homebuyer’s situation is different. In competitive markets, creative problem-solving and persistence can make all the difference.

For this amazing mom, the result was more than a successful closing; it was a fresh start rooted in stability, light, and possibility.
